What is the HK Prize?

The HK Prize competition recognizes academic and extracurricular participation by high school students. Participants in the contest can win both financial prizes as well as international recognition through participation. Anyone considering applying should read all applicable rules and regulations carefully before applying; some competitions have specific themes or topics they must follow while others provide more general guidelines.

An HK prize may be bestowed upon an artist whose works depict social issues or injustice, film with outstanding soundtrack or action choreography or cinematography depicting Hong Kong history – these awards could make the difference between an unnoticed movie and one which becomes an audience favorite at the box office.

Once again, let us welcome back Mr. and Mrs. Barlow! They both are back! I don’t mind waiting – let me get some coffee while they take a well deserved nap. The BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE is an annual merit-based award that recognizes outstanding scientists or research teams residing in Hong Kong or the Greater Bay Area (Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao) that have made outstanding scientific advances, their implementation into practice and any economic and societal value that has resulted. Life and Health; New Materials & Energy; and Advanced Manufacturing are eligible for consideration for these awards, with up to five winners per category being honored at an awards ceremony annually. Winners will be given cash prizes, certificates and trophies during this ceremony; should any breaches in professional ethics occur, however, the board has the power to deny or withdraw them as appropriate measures may need to be taken by taking appropriate actions against individuals involved or withdrawing the cash prize and certificate altogether.

Some recipients of the Hong Kong Prize have been activists fighting for freedom and democracy under threat of persecution. Others have been engaged in community service projects such as providing shelter to homeless adults. Others still are involved with arts such as dance groups that promote mental health or film production companies that focus on local or regional stories; all worthy efforts worthy of being celebrated through this award. The Hong Kong Prize provides an ideal way of honoring these efforts while celebrating creativity throughout Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Prize recognizes and rewards excellence in scientific research conducted by individuals or research-related institutions in Hong Kong, encouraging young researchers to focus on science with significant social benefits while positioning Hong Kong as a centre of innovation and excellence. Winners will receive not only a substantial monetary prize but also access to premier research facilities as well as networking opportunities with top scientists worldwide.

Outside of the main HK prizes, there are also smaller awards that recognize various aspects of film and TV production. For instance, Hong Kong Film Awards has categories for music, editing and action choreography while HK Prize for Literature provides cash prizes to Asian writers as well as an awards ceremony in Beijing for them to gain international exposure for their works.
