Today (September 25), winners of the 8th Inter-school Competition of Study Projects on Hong Kong History and Culture were honored at an award ceremony. Launched by the Hong Kong Museum of History and Institute for Promotion of Chinese Culture in 2000, this competition challenges students to explore history through in-depth research on an individual topic.

This year’s prize attracted more than 340 entries from schools throughout Hong Kong. Winning projects focused on various subjects including Hong Kong Maritime Labour Movement history and National Sentiment during 8-Year War of Resistance against Japan as well as case studies from 1940s tin mining industry.

Winners received certificates and trophies, in addition to cash awards of US$100,000 (Lifetime Achievement Award) and US$50,000 (Early Career Contribution Award). The awards ceremony took place at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University with its President providing the prize presentation address.

Each prize field has its own final judging panels, while The Best Article Prize on Global Hong Kong Studies is presided over by a member of the Academy’s Board of Directors. Judges for these prizes are experts in their respective fields with evaluation criteria including relevance to theme, systematic use of collected materials, objectivity in analysis and proper citation of bibliography and footnotes.

Shortlisted applicants will also have an invaluable opportunity to benefit from expert consultancy and advice, and receive an objective non-prescriptive description of their strengths and areas for improvement based on assessment criteria. This will assist them in improving their competitiveness while at the same time contributing to Hong Kong’s scientific research and innovation ecosystem.

BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION PRIZE (STIP) recognizes outstanding scientific researchers and teams for their impressive achievements across five areas: Artificial Intelligence & Robotics; Life & Health; New Materials & New Energy; Advanced Manufacturing and FinTech. Each prize field laureate will receive HK$2 Million sponsored by BOCHK as well as certificates and trophies.

The Hong Kong Alliance of Technology and Innovation appoints an expert panel, comprising of a Review Committee and Compliance Oversight Team. Their review results are then approved by the Board; any decisions made are final and binding.

Since 2011, the BOCHK SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY PRIZE has attracted the best scientists both locally and from overseas, who have shown great determination to advance science and technology innovations that build on Hong Kong’s strengths, serve the nation, and contribute to world peace. Furthermore, its Innovation Prize has inspired young local scientific researchers to continue with scientific research while working alongside others and strive for excellence – something we look forward to presenting more outstanding laureates with in 2023!
