Programs

The JAG Multi-Year Model

The components of the model include a JAG employment skills class in which students receive elective credit and a minimum of 120 contact hours per year with their JAG Specialist.  The class teaches 37 core competencies including career path formation, setting job goals, résumés, letters of application, phone etiquette, job applications, verbal/written communications, math, teamwork, leadership and personal & workplace values & ethics.

Students in the JAG class automatically become members of the Career Association.  The Career Association is critical for engaging students in their education and building leadership.  Many JAG students enter the program with low grades and many barriers and are not joiners.  When they begin to participate in Career Association, it engages and excites youth in their own education.  JAG students do community service and participate in the community.

The JAG Specialist is not only a teacher and club sponsor.  She is also a mentor who takes a personal success of each student.  JAG Specialists engage students and parents to raise attendance, raise grades, pass proficiencies and make up credits in order to graduate.

The 12 Month Follow Up component of the program is critical to student success.    This element of the program ensures that Program Specialists continue to work with students for 12 months after leaving high school.  The program’s 90% plus graduation rates are attributed to follow up.

Students who finish high school receive help finding jobs and receive supportive services (e.g., work clothes, tools, books) to achieve employment.  JAG Specialists continue to work with dropouts students to make sure that they complete the High School Equivalency for the state and to find work.

Jobs for America’s Graduates

The JAG Multi-Year Program is a highly effective, data-driven model that raises graduation rates and prepares participants by honing their work readiness skills. JAG students graduate at higher rates than their peers and are exceptionally prepared with a tool box of workplace skills that lead to success at work, in post-secondary education and/or the military.

Jobs for Nevada’s Graduates Inc. (aka JAG Nevada) is a private Nevada nonprofit formed at the request of the Nevada Governor’s Office to serve as the home base for the Jobs for America’s Graduates (JAG) program in Nevada.
